Comforted to Comfort

Dear Reader,

2020 was an uncomfortable year. There was always something unexpected and unbelievable happening. We’ve seen civil unrest, the COVID-19 virus spread and take many lives, and there are untold stories of struggles globally. But there is good news and it is the church’s assignment to spread it. God will comfort us in times of distress and uncertainty. Remember this in the days ahead.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God (2 Cor 1:3-4).”

God of all Comfort

God is our everything. In times of trouble, He is our refuge, strength, and ever-present help (Psalm 46: 1).  He is also the God of all comfort.  Not only does He provide for our physical needs, but He also satisfies our souls.

We can go confidently to God without hesitation, He is our Father. When the Lord Jesus Christ gave His life on the cross at Calvary, He opened the way for us to have a relationship with God. Let’s not forget this and all the benefits of walking with Jesus (Psalm 103:2). Jesus promises to never leave us comfortless. He sent the Holy Spirit the comforter to lead us into all truth (John 14:18).

You First

How can we help comfort others if we are restless?  We cannot be effective in outreach without the Spirit of God. Our time with God allows for a transfer of knowledge and clarity that is critical for ministry. We need God’s instructions and anointing before we can uplift others. We must get in God’s presence through prayer and worship. And most importantly, wait to hear what He has to say. He fills us up with strength so that we can tend to others. Our cups must be filled first so we can be effective in ministry.

God was with us in 2020, through all the ups and downs, and will continue to be near as we seek Him with all our hearts. He promises never to leave or forsake us (Heb. 13:5).  That’s why we can go confidently into the new year with cheer, comfort, and joy. Circumstances may be dark and gloomy, but the God of all comfort is with us.  May we be enriched by Him, in all utterance and all knowledge.

Grace and peace,

HHM
